AI optimisation

On websites, online shops and visibility in search engines and AI-powered responses. Every article includes sources and a date — even when the conclusion is that there is as yet no evidence for something.

  • How much does search engine optimisation cost in Finland?

In Finland, search engine optimisation typically costs a small business between 250 and 2,500 euros a month, whilst a one-off project costs between 500 and 2,500 euros. The range is so wide that it’s of no help to anyone — so this article explains what the price covers, what the monthly fee actually covers after the first month, and when it’s not worth buying search engine optimisation at all.

  • Google AI Overview in Finnish — 40-word search: it doesn’t appear in shopping searches

I analysed 40 Finnish-language searches on 10 September 2026, and Google’s AI-generated response appeared in 24 of them. However, the distribution is stark: the response appeared in 70 per cent of information searches, but only in 38 per cent of cases where the searcher was looking to make a purchase. Another figure was even more surprising — the top result in the search appeared as the source of the AI response in only 58 per cent of cases. A top ranking does not, therefore, guarantee a place in the response. This article contains the full data set and…

  • What is GEO optimisation — and what really happened to search clicks?

GEO optimisation refers to editing content so that artificial intelligence will cite it in its responses. The term originates from a research paper from 2024, and it is already being marketed as a standalone service in Finland. This article covers two points: what GEO actually means, and the one measurable change that actually occurred in search clicks — when Google displays a summary generated by artificial intelligence, the number of clicks on search results drops by about half.

  • AI optimisation: what’s being sold and what’s actually true

Artificial intelligence optimisation — that is, GEO, AEO and other acronyms — is marketed as a distinct discipline with its own set of techniques. This is not true. Google states explicitly in its own guidelines that optimisation for generative search is search engine optimisation — and the only study in the field conducted using a comparable control group found that methods specifically targeted at AI search are mostly ineffective and often even harmful. This article discusses…

  • Google Business Profile: how to do it properly

A Google Business Profile is free, and you cannot buy your ranking — Google says so itself. Yet for most local businesses, it is more effective than any single search engine optimisation measure. This article goes through the three factors that, according to Google’s own documentation, determine your ranking, and the two rules whose violation is the most common reason for a profile being suspended.
