SEARCH ENGINE OPTIMISATION · STRATEGY AND IMPLEMENTATION

Search engine optimisation for businesses:
targets in figures.

Search engine optimisation costs between 500 and 8,000 euros a month in Finland, and the price doesn’t tell you what’s actually included. Here, we first draw up a strategy in which the objectives and the work involved are quantified, followed by implementation, which is measured against these targets every month. The strategy is yours, and it can be implemented by anyone.

GOALS · 12 MONTHS 4 / 12
Google impressions target: 12,000 per month
Target number of clicks on the website: 600 per month
Target number of enquiries: 12 per month
Ranked 1–10, 8 out of 12 target keywords
Sample report. The figures are targets, not guarantees — and that is precisely why they are displayed every month.

BEFORE YOU ORDER ANYTHING

Four things you should know about search engine optimisation

The cost of search engine optimisation is the most confusing figure in the industry. These four tips will help you make sense of the quotes.

01

The monthly price means nothing without the number of pages

Prices published by Finnish providers range from €500 to €3,300 per month for freelancers, €800 to €2,500 per month for agencies, and €3,000 to €8,000 per month in a competitive sector. The difference comes down to the workload. Ask each of them the same questions: how many pages per month, what technical work is involved, and what is reported. You can find our details below.

02

An investment guarantee is a warning sign

No one owns Google’s search results. In practice, a guarantee either means a search term with no competition, or a condition that never needs to be fulfilled. We set our targets as specific figures and measure them every month — and if we’re not on track after three months, we adjust the roadmap.

03

First, we’ll assess whether we can cater for your sector

In some sectors in Finland, people aren’t searching for what the company actually sells at all. The first result of this strategy is search volumes measured, not estimated. If there is no demand, we’ll tell you that before we even offer to carry out the project — a cheaper way to save money than a six-month contract.

04

The strategy is yours, not ours

You’ll receive the research, objectives and roadmap in written form. You can implement it yourself, have someone else do it, or commission us to carry it out. The strategy isn’t a sales pitch for the implementation, but a document that allows you to put the implementation out to tender.

WHAT IS INCLUDED IN THE STRATEGY

First, the data. Then, the objectives. Then, the roadmap.

The strategy is developed using the same tools we use to measure our own visibility: Google Ads data on search volumes and click-through rates, Search Console history, and competitors’ websites – measured, not estimated.

The result is a document that can be read without us and implemented without us.

ROADMAP FOR THE MONTH · EXAMPLE

Month 2

4 pages · 2 technical corrections · report
  • New service page: ‘company websites’ (1,000 searches per month)
  • Update: price list page now matches the search term ‘website price’
  • Two pages of answers to customers’ questions
  • Technical: site map and internal links to service pages
Keyword research using measured data: search volumes, cost per click and competition from Google Ads data, plus the site’s own Search Console history. We distinguish between purchase-intent searches and informational searches — only the former lead to sales.
Competitor analysis: Who ranks where, on which pages, in which position and with how much text. The top results are analysed one search term at a time to determine what is required of the page.
Technical audit: Speed, plugins, whether the site is visible to Google, machine-readable information about the company, mobile. The same content as in the WordPress audit, and it is included in the price of the strategy.
Targets in figures for 12 months: page views, clicks, enquiries and ranking targets for specified search terms. Written in such a way that anyone can read the actual figures in Search Console.
Monthly roadmap: Which pages will be created, in what order, and why. Deliverables: pages, corrections and reports are specified in advance.
A baseline for measurement: Where are we now, in figures? Without that, it’ll be impossible to say in six months’ time whether the work has paid off.

HOW IT’S DONE

Three weeks to develop the strategy. Then one month at a time.

Implementation will not begin until the objectives have been approved. This is deliberate.

DAY 0

Measurement begins

We’ll analyse search volumes, your company’s history and your competitors. All we need from you is access to Search Console and an hour of your time: what you sell, to whom, and where your current sales are coming from.

10 WORKING DAYS

Draft proposal

A proposal setting out targets in figures and the keywords we’ll be focusing on. We’ll go through it over the phone, and you decide what we’ll aim for.

3 WEEKS

Strategy finalised

Research, objectives, audit and roadmap in writing. You can stop here: the document is yours.

MONTH 1 →

Implementation in line with the roadmap

4–6 pages per month, technical fixes and a monthly report against targets. A quarterly review, during which the roadmap is adjusted based on performance metrics.

PRICE

Strategy for a one-off fee. Implementation on a monthly basis.

The strategy costs €2,900 and is ready in three weeks. Implementation according to the roadmap costs €1,490 per month, and in a competitive sector or for an online shop, €2,900 per month, in which case the number of pages and metrics are doubled. The minimum duration of implementation is six months, as the results of search engine optimisation become apparent over months rather than weeks.

The price for search engine optimisation is publicly available and fixed. If you want to be visible without a strategy or objectives, the Visibility package costs €890 + €390 per month — see the comparison below.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Frequently asked questions.

How much does search engine optimisation cost?

Our strategy costs €2,900 and implementation €1,490 per month; in a competitive sector or for an online shop, €2,900 per month, VAT 0%. Prices published in Finland range from €500 to €3,300 per month for freelancers, €800 to €2,500 per month for agencies serving small businesses, and €3,000 to €8,000 per month in competitive sectors. We went through how prices are determined in the article ‘How much does search engine optimisation cost?’.

What’s the difference with the Visibility package?

Visibility is the foundation, and a standard amount of content is provided: company details in order, machine-readable information about the company, and two Q&A pages per month, without any strategy or objectives. Search engine optimisation begins with research and objectives, and implementation involves 4–6 pages per month in accordance with the roadmap. Visibility customers can upgrade: a one-off fee for the strategy and a monthly fee for implementation replace the €390 charge.

Do you guarantee a spot on the first page of Google?

No. Nobody owns the search results, and in this industry, a ‘guarantee’ is simply a way of selling either a non-competitive keyword or a condition that doesn’t need to be fulfilled. Instead, targets are set in numerical terms — impressions, clicks, enquiries and ranking targets for specific search terms — and these are tracked via Search Console every month. If we’re not on track after three months, the roadmap is revised.

Why is the strategy sold separately?

Because without it, implementation is a matter of guesswork. Research reveals whether your sector is being searched for at all and which keywords are used, whilst competitor analysis reveals what is required of the site. Having a separate strategy also means you can stop there: the document is yours, and you can use it to put the implementation out to tender.

Can I implement the strategy myself?

You can. The roadmap sets out the pages, their keywords and angle, whilst the technical audit lists the corrections. Some clients create the content themselves and only purchase technical corrections from us — this is also agreed upon based on the roadmap.

How quickly will I see results?

Technical fixes may take weeks to become visible. The impact of content work begins to show within 3–6 months and builds up from there. A new domain name takes longer to gain traction than an established one. That is why the minimum duration of the project is six months: a shorter period would not be long enough to determine whether the work has been effective.

Will this work if my website was built by someone else?

It works. We draw up a strategy for any website, and the audit reveals whether there are any technical barriers. If the barrier is such that it cannot be circumvented without a website revamp, we’ll state this in the strategy and provide a quote for both options.
