Newsletter and mailing list
An order form for your website and addresses stored in your own database — not on an external service. You can view the list, export it and send a letter using whichever tool you prefer. Consent and an unsubscribe link are handled automatically, as the list is not legally valid without them.
What you get
- An order form for the website. Place it where it works best: at the end of an article, in the footer or in its own section.
- Confirmation message. The customer receives an email; clicking the link in the email confirms the order. This is known as ‘double verification’, and it is the best protection against incorrect addresses and spam orders.
- Manage your own domain names. You can view a list of your domain names in the site’s admin panel and export it as a CSV file at any time.
- Unsubscribe link. Every message you send contains a working unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing removes the address from the list immediately.
- Consent upon registration. A timestamp is recorded, along with the form from which the order originated. This serves as evidence that the data protection authority will request should a complaint be made.
- Spam protection. The form features protection that does not require customers to identify images or endure any other hassle.
What the law requires
Sending marketing emails to businesses and consumers are two different matters. You may only send emails to consumers with their consent. You may send emails to businesses if the message relates to their line of business — but every message must still include an option to unsubscribe.
In practice, three things are crucial: consent has been clearly sought, it has been recorded, and cancelling is just as easy as placing an order. All three are taken care of here. A pre-ticked box does not constitute consent, so we do not use them.
Why not directly to Mailchimp?
You can use Mailchimp or any other service — this won’t stop you. The difference lies in where the email addresses are stored initially. Once they’re stored in your own database, the list is yours, regardless of what happens to the mailing service: a price rise, the service being discontinued, your account being closed, or simply because you want to switch to a cheaper option.
Another difference is location. The vast majority of delivery services are based in the US. Transferring an address list outside the EU is, under the General Data Protection Regulation, a matter that must be justified and documented. When the list is held in Finland and data is only accessed externally at the time of dispatch, the situation is simpler.

Is the letter being sent from this system?
No. This collects and manages the email addresses. The actual sending is carried out via a mailing service, as sending a thousand messages from our own server would end up in the spam folder. The data is exported to the mailing service as a single file.
How much does the delivery service cost?
Most are free for up to a few hundred email addresses and then cost between 10 and 30 euros a month. I recommend a European option, such as Breve or MailerLite.
Can the form ask for anything other than an email address?
Oh. Name and company are the most common. The more fields there are, the fewer subscribers you’ll get — that’s why the default is just an email address.
What if I already have a list?
It is imported from a file. However, old addresses cannot be verified retrospectively, so their consent remains as it was originally.
